Spring cleaning is one of the most fun things to do when the weather starts to change. The energy outside changes, leading to your wanting to change your nest.
Spring Cleaning Tips
1. Clean By Category, Not Room
This is a tip that comes from Marie Kondo. She explains that you should organize your space by category, like clothing, white papers, and toys… Instead of doing it room by room. This makes it a lot easier to take stock of how much you own of what.
This is one of my top spring cleaning tips because you need first to discard and organize before you can do an in-depth cleaning of your home.
I believe we are energetically tied to each thing that we own.
While this sounds a little “out there” I do think that the more we are intentional in our space, by being mindful to only keep items that bring happiness, the happier we will become overall.
2. Clean Your Blinds
This is incredibly satisfying. To clean your blinds (not fabric blinds), take a soft washcloth and add either a little bit of all-purpose cleaner to it or warm water mixed with a bit of gentle soap.
I would recommend wearing gloves while you clean so you can keep your hands from getting dried out!
Begin at the top blind, and gently begin to remove the dust by going side to side.
Once the cloth is dusty, move to a piece of fresh cloth and clean the blinds one at a time, moving down a slat each time.
3. Clean Your Baseboards
This task seems tedious, but it makes a huge difference to the look and feel of the room. Spend some time going over each baseboard in your bedroom, bathroom, living room, and kitchen.
You can clean your baseboards with a cloth and a all-prupose cleaner or warm water with soap. Once the baseboard is dried, use a dryer sheet to go over it. This is one of the best spring cleaning hacks I have found!
4. Clean Out Your Cabinets
This is one of the best spring cleaning organization tips that you can do. Take everything out of your cabinets. All food, products, drinks, bottles, organizers, and anything else-and then put those on your counter.
Take a cloth with a cleaner that is friendly to the material you are cleaning on and wipe down your cabinets. Make sure there are no crumbs left!
Use a cleaner that works well with the exterior of your cabinet, and clean down the outside of your cabinets and the handles so they look clean and sparking!
5. Clean Your Pantry
This is one of my favorite spring cleaning tips and tricks. This is also a tip that is overlooked normally.
Go through all of your food, boxes, and things that were in your pantry, and get rid of things that are expired.
6. Clean Your Fridge
Similarly to what you did with your pantry, take all of the food out of your fridge (be mindful of perishable items) and clean your fridge with warm soapy water and a cloth. Once dried, reorganize the items in your fridge.
Make sure you get rid of expired items.
If you can take out inserts, I recommend it. You can put the inserts into a clean bucket in your sink, fill it with warm-hot soapy water, and let them soak.
Now, you can really do an in-depth cleaning of your fridge.
Quick spring cleaning tip: Once you are finished, and everything is put back, add a little baking soda dish with lemon essential oil to a bowl and put it in your fridge. This helps your fridge smell amazing every time you open it!
7. Clean Your Oven
To clean your range, use whatever your favorite method is and your favorite cleaning products that work for that applience.
Make sure you remove any dried food.
8. Clean Your Disposal
My favorite way to clean garbage disposal is to use these little cleaning products. They work so well and leave your disposal smelling amazing.
I wrote a whole blog post on tips to clean your kitchen, so if you’d like to know even more spring cleaning hacks, read this post.
9. Clean Your Dishwasher
This is the best dishwasher cleaner I have found. Most of the time, you can forget to clean the things that do the cleaning, such as dishwashers, washing machines, etc.
10. Declutter Your Cleaning Products
Don’t let the fact that you bought something or spent money on it keep you from decluttering it. Go through your cleaning products and get rid of items that you know don’t work, empty bottles, or products you really don’t like to use.
I have bought products that made my entire apartment smell like a 100-year olds home that used patchouli every day. The scent lasted for days, and since I am sensitive to scents, I didn’t use it again.
It’s not a waste of money to discard things that don’t work. If you have a half-empty bottle of glass cleaner that never works, get rid of it.
You only want to keep cleaning products that excite you to use because then you will clean your place more often.
11. Clean Your Washing Machine
Much like the dishwasher, your washing machine needs to be cleaned too. There are tabs you can buy to clean the inside, but it’s also good to clean out the area where the detergent goes, as well as cleaning.
Bonus Spring Cleaning Hack:
Play Music While You Clean!
Listening to music while you clean is one of the best and most underrated spring cleaning tips!
I suggest something happy and upbeat because when we listen to music, we are letting those lyrics into our subconscious minds and I only want to program mine with the best!
